Cambrian and Wynne mines - Glyn Ceiriog - Feb 2011
Cambrian Slate mine, and Wynne mine, visited with The Cat Crept In, Darwen Dave, Georgie & Gibbo.
Haven't actually been able to find much info on Cambrian, apparently there is a book available called 'Slates from Glyn Ceiriog'. Apart from that, I can't really tell you much about the place, apart from there was massive quarries above ground, and extensive underground areas. Anyway....... some pics: Cambrian Slate Mine After arriving at the entrance, it was obvious that it was going to be a wet trip. Not only had I not noticed the crack in my welly, but I might as well have not worn them as the rushing water soon filled them up. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...r/IMG_2954.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...r/IMG_2928.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...r/IMG_2933.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...r/IMG_2938.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...r/IMG_2946.jpg Georgie's car decided to sink into the mud, but we soon got it out!! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...r/IMG_2955.jpg Wynne Slate Mine Wynne Mine is a former show mine, owned by Mrs. Anglea Davies who we were lucky enough to meet on our exit. She was out walking her dog and peacocks! Apparently she couldn't keep the attraction open once her husband passed away. There are 3 levels, the lowest is completely flooded now. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...r/IMG_2970.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...r/IMG_2977.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...r/IMG_2960.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...r/IMG_2989.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...r/IMG_2957.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...r/IMG_2992.jpg Mrs Anglea Davies, kindly chatted to us and gave us a bit of info and history on the place. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...r/IMG_2997.jpg |

Good pics Sal.
Love to get down there again sometime, I think I could easily spend 8-10 hours there. Anyone know why the water is blue? It's not a photographical illusion, it really is blue. |
Im not sure its only a guess but i thought you get the crystal clear blue water underground due to the lack of biological life. And the slate it self would give a blueish tint i would of thought.
