Holy Well - Barrow Bridge - Bolton 02/04
This is a bit of a strange one as its not quite a full report its more of a recce. I have been looking for this site for a while and after a full day "mothers day shopping" I decided to see if I could find it once and for all. The only problem was, it was going dark, I was on my own and I didn't really have the correct gear on (it was very wet), but I managed to go a few feet in. I took a few pics and so I am looking at going visiting it properly if anybody with tunnelling experience fancies it. (Its quite cramped).. anyway the history and info can be found at - http://www.about-rivington.co.uk/pla...shire/england/
On to the pics, sorry about the quality. http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/...l/DSCF0626.jpg http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/...l/DSCF0625.jpg http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/...l/DSCF0628.jpg http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/...l/DSCF0629.jpg http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/...l/DSCF0634.jpg http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/...l/DSCF0630.jpg http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/...l/DSCF0631.jpg http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/...l/DSCF0632.jpg http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/...l/DSCF0635.jpg The water flows from the spring down to the river http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/...l/DSCF0643.jpg View of the Barrow Bridge Chimney http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/...l/DSCF0622.jpg Thanks for looking and if anybody fancies it let me know......... |

Its supposed to come out at the spring in moss bank park, ive had a look for it but could'nt find it
|
That's really cool. I used to take my little 'un to Moss Bank Park a lot when I lived in Tyldesley.

This is a great place, I have been right to the end. Believe me it gets even more cramped. My buddy couldn't even get his cam out towards the end and it was difficult to turn round.
Might be best to go in just one at a time, the water crashing down at the end can be amazing. It does look dangerous with the water pouring down through the brickwork. I was a member of the team who took the picture on the website posted above. We did this and "old smokey" on the same day as they are both short and both so close. Do old smokey first and then was all the soot off in the well :) |
