Round Barn Quarry

I only found out recently that this place existed so I thought a mooch was in order.

Situated on the Roman Road between Darwen and Edgworth the spoil heaps dominate the horizon and was obviously a very big operation once over.

I haven't been able to find any history of the place, all I know is that it used to be a sandstone quarry but isn't any more. :)

Anyhoo, a few pics.

There's a good few hundred yards of passages but they are cut in a grid formation so you are never very far in.

a word of advice :

look at when your climbing guide was written

this quarry is sandstone - its not an stable structure

remember this - and revise your plan

Yeah this guy had climbed there years ago hes long hanged up his climbing gear. It was just he'd seen some pics on my facebook and listed off loads of local places that had some good climbs, i thought id remembered this being one of them.
