Fletchers Paper Mill - Greenfield - June 2011
Robert Fletcher's Paper Mill - Greenfield - June 2011 Visited with DrHowser This was re-visit for me. I always said after it being such a pain in the ass to get in last time, I wouldn't go back. Mr Howser however persuaded me otherwise and whilst people were still returning home from being drunk, we were skulking around this mill, waiting for sunrise, like a pair of... badgers? I love this place, I think it's great. It's in fantastic condition given its 10 years + of being closed. I saw the site on tv, on a program called 'Send in the dogs' on ITV. It displayed the site being used for police dog training; highlighting a couple of internals it reminded me I should actually probably go back. I was more than pleased to see much stuff which I missed back in September... History (From Jst's Site and cheers for the intel:thumb) Robert Fletcher has produced paper since 1823 but in 1986, the company became part of the Melton Medes group. As non-UK sales represented up to 45% of the company’s annual 20,000 tonnes output, the strength of the pound hit hard. Greenfield Mill was one of two mills operated by Robert Fletcher & Son Ltd, for the manufacture of lightweight high opacity paper bible and cigarette paper. It closed in July 2001, following the closure of the company’s Stoneclough site the previous year. The type of paper they produced has become quite unpopular in the UK due to the amount of chemicals (especially chlorine) used in its production as Europe moves towards TCF (totally-chlorine free) or ECF (elemental-chlorine free) production... http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...4_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...0_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...6_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...1_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...4_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...3_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...0_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...1_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...0_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...6_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...4_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...9_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...1_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...2_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...9_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...0_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...5_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...7_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...1_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...0_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...8_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...0_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...0_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...9_edited-1.jpg http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/...4_edited-1.jpg Cheers :thumb |

nice one. the early morning light makes for beautiful photos. this was one the first places I visited after finding out that urbex existed and I wasn't alone in the world of rooting about in wrong places. only came to realise how good it was as time went by and I'm not sure I've had a better explore since.

A classic, some things I've not seen before either. Nice one!

Cheers, it'd definitely in my top 10.

Tried to visit here today and failed! We were looking for a way to get in and a car pulled up and security got out so that was our time to call it a day, gutted as these pics look fab!
