Upper Gwenfro Culvert 31/08/12
Explored with myself Having previously tried this but failed due to low battery in the torch and a flat battery in the camera I gave it a miss. Never got off to the best start as I reached the outfall to discover I'd left the torch in the car so it was back to the car. outfall, its a significant stoop https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...23588469_n.jpg down to the Infall now I've got my torch! a short 6ft box to begin. Ghost in the culvert https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...63424600_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...75501867_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.n...42813286_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.n...47630861_n.jpg The short, nice looking culvert 5 ft dropping to 3-4 ft. https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.n...19123398_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.n...80260081_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...61768693_n.jpg between the nice section and the boring bit. https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.n...55215431_n.jpg the main, boring culvert 4 ft here https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.n...68288372_n.jpg 3 ft RCP (never went up here) about half way along https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.n...32063654_n.jpg A little on was surface access with lots of spiders and providing respite from the stoop. managed to get in sight of the outfall but, water levels had risen to around a ft and with just wellies that was a bit too high! combine that with what felt like a reduction of culvert hight (guessing it was down to 3 ft due to debris) it was here that I turned back, with that previously mentioned surface access being used for a bit of more respite. Intresting floor though, gravel but seems to be embedded https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.n...75320024_n.jpg Illegible poster from the box culvert association at the 6 ft culvert https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...23054414_n.jpg |
What parts did You hit?
I keep planning on hitting up a part I didn't manage with Jim Gillette, but I get all distracted by the underground invites when I have free time, and it's not Hammering it down. If you fancy doing the whole thing, hit me up, and we'll see what we can organise. |
All under (and next to) Southsea here. Probably going to attempt the Wrexham section one afternoon. but it's usually a spur of the moment desision. Need to get down there as I want to hide one or 2 geocaches in that culvert. ;) And some duct tape to attempt to seal up the waterproofs ;)

I also know a couple of possibles for hiding your Geocaches. Accessible, but not easily spottable. Hit me up over PM if you have Thursday or Friday free next week. |
Cool little report. Must be something in the make up of culverteers - the majority seem to do em solo.
