Proof that council planners were dropping too much acid in the 1960s!
Mancunian way the A57(M) is a flyover in south central Manchester that was completed in 1967 (Parts were updated in 1992)
Classed as the Manchester/Salford inner ring road, it is a west to east link road to ease city centre congestion.
All was going well until it became apparent that the slip road that was to create a dual carriageway to the A34 was actually pointing the wrong way!
So they simply stopped building it and the resulting stub remains to this day hidden partly by an advertising placard!
I have wanted to capture this pretty much all the time Ive lived in Manchester and I finally did it!
The beginning and the end!
The end - and the beginning! With the main route in the background.
The silent flyover.
You are well, somewhere around here!
The view, which no car will ever have!
Or a rear view mirror!
Apply brakes now!
And then it stopped!
Sneaky way of hiding a council clanger!
