Ojay, this is one of a series of buildings by W A Gibbon of Cruickshank + Seward on the former UMIST campus. They are some of the best post-war buildings in Manchester and the group is a sophistictaed master plan that took into account a slope, a polluted river and a railway viaduct. Gibbon pioneered aspects of structural concrete and the shuttered white concrete on this building owes much to Pierre Luigi Nervi and Oscar Niemeyer. Definitely not an eyesore!
