This wasn’t supposed to be an explore, more of a recce, but you know how it is when you just keep pushing and everything seems to give way? It just felt like the right time of day, you know, as everyone is heading home, security winding down and not really at their sharpest. I’ve stuck it in here as I don’t want to bust anyone else’s chances of having a look around. I did the usual and headed for the top as quick as I could once access had been secured, not expecting a rooftop at all on this mission I was happy to be able to access a group of offices and pop out of the nearest window for a quick couple of shots.
The town hall extension was designed, like the Central Library, by E. Vincent Harris and completed in 1938. It was designated Grade II* listed in 1974. The staff have just moved out to a new premises at No.1 First Street, formerly Grand Island, and the contractors are about to move in. It’s that perfect slippage between responsible parties, so if you’re going to go, go soon. I know for a fact that there is an extensive basement, but I didn’t have chance on my flying solo visit to head below ground.

Alas, the role of City Architect was erased some years ago.
