Default 2 Harter Street / The Tube Nightclub - 19-01-2011, 11:32

Visited with buddah, Agour and a couple of non-members

After a cancelled trip to the 'arches' due to the building works, we were at a loose end so decided to go have a look at this place which I noticed a couple of weeks ago.

Theres a couple of reports on here about the building but I cant seem to find much info on it.

Taken from NorthMancBeds' post of last year:

"This late C19 building was originally a paper warehouse and along with no.12 Harter Street backed onto a spur of the Rochdale Canal (now backfilled). The two were built together as a group, but the architect is not recorded in any of the usual sources. The pair were also listed at the same time on the 6th June 1994. No.12 is now the ubiquitous city centre apartment block, but no.2 remains undeveloped. "

The basement of the building housed a nightclub, which seems to have been closed circa 2003 (according to the last flyers on the walls). The basement was weird, quite surreal. There were drinks just left on tables, full ash trays, spirits behind the bar and the pumps still worked! We managed to pour a fresh pint of cider, which looked and smelt fine. Needless to say that no one had the balls to take a swig though!

The main entrance has some quite nice timber paneling to the walls, but other than this the warehouse part of the building is pretty bare.

A few pics..

The following two were behind the lift in the basement..

Was there anything much left when you visited? Would be good to see some pics from before it was completely emptied!

The drinks out and full ash trays are a sign of parties that have taken place there since it closed

Some people would say light painting next to windows at night is stupid, but they're probably just being too careful.

Oh yes! There was still electric to the basement, the taps all worked, but the beer was flat, and there were loads of mixers and cans on the back shelf behind the bar.

Plus, the ceiling tiles hadn't got wet and fallen in, so the place was dry and clean.

We held an "Explore Manchester" (Battledroid's predecessor of NWEX) forum party there many years ago!

The first pic when we found the basement:

Ironically we'd explored the entire building from the ground up and was about to leave when Romanian1 thought he'd just check out a stairwell at the back (entrance was through the front door back then). When we returned with Battledroid we tidied up the bar to the state you can see in the first pic.
