Default St Mary's Tower, Birkenhead Priory - May 10 - 15-05-2010, 20:12

St. Mary's Church and Tower was built in 1822 alongside the old Birkenhead Priory, to serve a small parish of less than 800 people.

The tower contains a spiral staircase that leads to a viewing platform, commanding excellent views.

The tower is also a memorial to those who served on the submarine HMS Thetis, lost during sea trials in Liverpool Bay on 1st June 1939. 99 out of 103 were lost.

I was just passing this place, and thought it an ideal site to test drive the new lens that I bought from Scrappy. Thank you sir, its an outstanding improvement on the stock Canon 18-55.

I wasn't sure if this classed as high stuff, or industrial, or a reccé for those interested in the activities on the waterside!

Close up on the gates.

A couple of panoramas. Apologies for the second one, I've not used Autopano for a while and this new version is far more complex than the last!

Im loving the Liverpool waterfront pano, I think I can almost see some method in the planning committee's madness.
