In 1947 a Public Enquiry held in August about proposals to build a power station in Huncoat for which work began in 1950. The Power Station was finaly opened by the Mayor on 11th May 1956 and was in operation until 1984 when it closed down. The power station cooling towers demolished 16th October 1988 and the main power station buildings were demolished in September 1990
