Default Birkenhead priory - April 2012 - 26-04-2012, 21:29

Visited with Leaf1471 and Jon

This wasn't even on the list to be done, but after a manhole lead went to nowhere anything was on the cards. Leaf had done this one a couple of nights before, and I fancied a go at it. After a gap in the wet weather came, we were straight up it.

The view from the top of the priory is nice, with views over Liverpool and the dockyard. You do stick out like a sore thumb up here though...

History
Birkenhead Priory is in Priory Street, Birkenhead, Merseyside, England. It is the oldest standing building on Merseyside. The remains of the priory are a Grade I listed building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument. It was founded about 1150 by Hamon de Masci, 3rd Baron of Dunham Massey for the Benedictine Order.
