My first report on here
Was hoping there would be more to see but unfortunatley most of it has been demolished
The site was originally a cole mine and back in the 1970's when the coal board finished with it they decided to turn it into a leisure park with help from Derbyshire council, after 20 weeks it closed.
The council then got Granada media and the chaps behind Camelot involved, the park opened in 1987 as American Adventure.
in 1997 Granada announced they wished to pull out of the park so The American Adventure was sold to a new company called Ventureworld, headed by former Alton Towers developer John Broome.
It was planned to change the name of the park to Adventure World from 1999, , but yet again, it wasn't to be. It was announced that John Broome had left the park and it was to return to being called The American Adventure.
The park was now owned by the THG Group, who also own Pontin's and Leisure Parcs, operators of Blackpool's Tower, Winter Gardens and Piers.
In the last year the park was aimed at the younger customer, being a rival to Gullivers Kingdom in matlock Bath. They purchased 'The Rocking Tug', 'Fire Brigade', 'Mini Mine Rush', and purchased a huge indoor soft play area.
Unfortunatly this was too late for the park and the park decided to close at the end of 2006.
Unfortunatley not much remains of the park a lot of the rides were taken out and sold on and Bulldozers demolished most of the buildings earlier this year.
