Default Whittle Tunnels/Whittle Sandstone Quarry 20/05 - 21-05-2011, 12:32

Visited with Buddah

Decided to have a drive over to see the Whittle Tunnels (never been done before). They are 2 old disused canal tunnels approx 40m long - to be honest there was not much to see although the stonework is amazing. We then headed over the road to a massive sandstone quarry and had a gander. Would be a good place to climb. We also got stopped off the plain clothes police in the quarry as a nosey neighbour had rang them - they were fine they just wanted to know if we had any intentions of jumping off as a few people had done so in the past.
More info on the tunnels here

On with the pics

Will await Buddah's better pics........

Hmm, this must be no more than 3 miles from my house, if that. I'll have to check it out, thanks for posting!

@ Snake Oil - not long they were built for the canal to pass through hills (about 40/50m) nice stonework but no canalanymore its more of a slush!
No probs Andym was a decent stroll but not much to see - would of been nice in their day.

Visited this site today and after a trip through the tunnels(and a muddy arse) I drove out past the quarry fence. Very sad to see so many flowers and photos.... A 13 year old lad drowned there earlier in the year it seems. Very sad.
