Dunno if anyone's interested, but we've been up here today, the forestry commission were at the lower enterance, the concealed one, with lots of workers milling about! they also had a small bulldozer type thing, smaller than a bobcat, but on tracks with a scoop on the front (not the digger type)

not sure exactly what they were doing, may of been nothing, we started to walk up to the upper level, then decided it was probably a bad idea, as we may of made it down and not been able to get out, or back up!

as i say, it may be nothing, but if there is talk of them blocking up the enterances, that could of been what was happening

That looks sweet as that does chaps, hope it doesnt get sealed but with the reports about mine water polluting rivers it could very well be a real possibility.

I cant actually see how they are going to stop the water from the mine running out of there into the river. surely even if they blew th whole mine it would still find it way down to the river through cracks in the rocks.

Believe me those adits will be sealed off as was mentioned earlier in this post, looks like they have started the work now.

I s'pose we cant't complain, we've been there 4 times and done the thru trip twice.

That must be a right pisser - walking all that way only to find that you aint gonna get in!

Egregious!

walk? are you mad! it must be 2 and a half miles, only takes 10 mins on a bike though, i think the killer is the hours drive up to braithwait though

to be honest, had i of been with more experanced people i would of chanced the top down, but one of the lads hasn't done a lot of SRT, I wasn't sure exactly what was involved and i didnt fancy getting stuck, i would rarther waste 3 hours of my day then spend 6 hours stuck in a hole lol.

Work is now under way to reopen the lower 2 adits and control the water flow from the mine. In doing so the lower 2 levels will be gated but there is no news so far as to what will happen to 2 level adit or the High force cross cut. If your going to do the trip get it done sooner rather than later otherwise you may never be able to do it.

All am going to say about route finding is firstly find the Incline, Then dont be afraid to climb and follow obvious well trodded paths. Also a harness and either a shunt or croll is advisable for the ladders as there in dubious condition now.
