Visited by Myself, Gone, Rookie, Jim Gillette.....
Gripper drain is basically a culverted stream in Fallowfield, Manchester within Platt Field Park.
The culvert I'm led to believe once was guarded by some kind of gates/grille at the entrance, these have long gone, A quick journey down the verge and were in, bit slippy mind!
This drain is around 300 yards long, twisting and turning before ending with a heavy metal grille and some sort of concrete access.
The tunnel entrance is a bridge over a main road which narrows out further in, just past a couple of twin flowing inlets.
There is good variety of brickwork in this one, normal and blue and also stone in places. The tunnel is tall and narrow with the stream flowing through around 2-3 deep. When we visited there was some serious flowage! and it was slippy as hell in places as the water was spilling over onto the walkway in places.
It had been raining heavily and I reckon it was flowing at over 4 feet per second as Rookie dropped in his chocolate wrapper which instantly raced off into the darkness!
There was also some 'Cave Clan' graffiti down there which Jim pointed out, will have to get some pics of that next time we head down
Spent a bit of time fecking around with the camera and torches, managed to get a few decent photos in this short but worthwhile little trip.
Nice One Guys...Until next week!
Thanks for looking
