Ok - serious answer IIRC they connect the 2 levels - the " bottom floor " was ` ground level - and that had dirrect tunnel access with rail lines to the outside

the " upper deck " was accessed via the lift + stairs - AFAIK there was only emergency personel escape hatches up from the top deck - all bombs / freight would have to be lowered to the bottom deck and trucked out the tunnels
Thats about right. Although we didn't see any escape hatches, they would have been absolutely useless with 40 feet of slate over your head. thats a long climb with 18,000 tons of bombs going off.

As for vehicular access, it's all about the trains every thing came in and went out on trains. if you look at the plans on subbrit I linked in my initial post it shows the tunnel access.

P.s. If you want to know the easy way to find it, without getting lost, PM me.

There's even a car park there !!! I live nearby. The factory opposite (DMM engineering ) were putting a new power press in last year and when digging foundation for it broke into a tunnel which must lead to the bomb store. While your down you might as well go onto quary at Llanfairfechan ( just after last tunnel ) lots of abandoned mining equipment. Also castle abandoned at aber. It was in till 89 and now is in total decay. A hotel chain has bought it and started work but looks like they have given up cos of credit crunch. You can get in if you no where to go.

Lets all do the DMM factory skip, we used to hunt for this when younger but the fable wasn't true ( we heard of the skip where all the slight seconds of friends, iceaxes and everything shiny went!!!!)...

if only!
