Rivington Terraced Gardens

Rivington Terraced Gardens, known locally as the Chinese (or Japanese) Garden sit in the shadow of Rivington Pike and were designed between 1906 and 1922 by Thomas Mawson for the grand estate of Lord William Leverhume.

The gardens occupy 18 hectares, and feature terraces and a pool. There are Japanese and Italian-style gardens, a pigeon tower with a sewing room once used by Lady Leverhulme on the top floor.

Very very nice set of pics - its something alot of local people including me take for granted. Would have loved to see it in its prime. Theres a couple of decent books in the library that show how it used to look - gorgeous. I love biking through here and almost drowned in the lake lol - not to mention the dogging days when I was younger!!!!

It's Dark and Hell is Hot........
