Default 18th Century Pillar and Stall Coal Workings - 01-08-2011, 00:41

This belting little set of workings was dismissed as "not worth going in - it's all run in" by one of our fellow pit moochers . Ah well, might as well slurp in and have a look anyroad.......Wow, straight into 18th Century workings, they may not be big, but they are perfectly formed and quite possibly would have been worked by a single family. Those people that have had the honour to visit 'Shirleys' will see the similarities in the two.

The Colliers pick marks.

I was just looking at my Shirley's pics a couple of weeks back, I submitted one to the Countryfile Photographic Competition!
