Default A Warning for exploring wales - 09-02-2010, 12:22

Right guys i have been asked to pass on some information regarding welsh slate mines.

There has been a lot of people exploring un abandoned slate mines in Wales recently and unfortunately they are not being very subtle about their entry.

The mine owners / managers are well aware of what is going on and have started to put things in place to protect themselves.

There was an incident this weekend when a group (from NWEX) was warned off a certain mine due to security and went ahead any way. They were then photographed and filmed by the security and there Reg numbers were taken. I am unsure as to what the mine owners will be doing with the information but they are not happy from what i can gather.

If you are planning trips to places you shouldn't be please do it at a time and place you wont be spotted. Its for your protection :( Also it can often be much easier to have a word with them when you turn up and explain what you wish to do and they are often very sympathetic to explorers as long your polite and ask first.

I am going to try and see if i can get a list of mines like this so that we can have it available to people wishing to explore so that they are aware of the risks before heading out.

Hmm, anyone care to 'fess up?

Ed, do you want to PM me contact details for the mine in question and I'll be in touch with them to apologise.

I'm guessing parking right outside the site for one

Whatever happened to the old days of parking somewhere distant and safe, being stealthily and getting in and out undetected?

M
good question im sure not first time our site has been blamed for the actions of other "sites"

You know, you really should keep a personal log. Why bore others needlessly?

Before this descends into speculation and general condemnation, I can assure you that we're dealing with the matter and anyone who has brought NWEX into disrepute will be severely reprimanded.

I'll keep this open for now, but lets keep comments down to a bare minimum.

They identified themselves as members to another group

Plus i have seen pictures of them and can confirm they are NWEX members :(

Just to let everyone know that these places are watched so its wise to check them out first.

indeed otherwise this thread is pointless. Im with you AndyJ you can barely move a kilometer in Wales without tripping over another disused mine/quarry there is no need whatsoever to do a live quarry FFS. Quarries are samey wherever you go anyway. Do some fupping research whoever the guilty party is
