The weird plastic stuff is 'fill', used to promote evaporation by providing a large surface area for water to run over. You can see that stuff all over the site, though at first I thought it was dumped Venetian blinds, lol. The noise in there when it was operational must have been awesome.

Great pictures. Did you get under the coal drops or has it flooded even more?

we got under the rail tracks and there was another staircase but it was flooded right to the top

I believe there were workmen there earlier in the year. When I went in May there was no-one, although the caterpillar tracks in the dirt were quite evident. It's a dead easy explore, worth going over now before it starts to get more difficult.
