Default Hay Royds Colliery - Aug 2012 - 06-08-2012, 11:49

104 years of coal mining came to end last week as the last coal tubs were hauled to the pit top. Hay Royds Colliery employed twenty men using drill and blast methods to extract coal from the pillar and stall workings, extracting 36,000 tonnes of coal per year for the domestic market.

The demolition team move in this week consigning Hay Royds to the history books.:(

Saw these just after you posted them on flickr, couldn't be sure if the place was abandoned or not. Amazes me that places like this still exist in the 21st century when the so many modern mines built in the 60's and 70's have shut.
