Default The Greenwood - 28-06-2012, 12:49

This is my first report so hope its ok!

The Greenwood Arms is a pub in Bolton that closed last year. I occasionally went in after watching football (fairly near the Reebok). Whilst it was still open there was a plan to turn it into shops offices etc. The local's objected and the plans were rejected. I think they hoped it would stay a pub, now its closed and derelict and the building may not survive at all so it might have been better to accept it as shops. The locals now have an action group with a webpage.

In happier times it looked like this.

Here is what it looks like now.

Down at the local.

A sad story with this one. I came across this picture lying on the floor. I assume the people in it were at the time well known regulars. I thought it was sad having it like that so I placed it on top of the old fireplace. Now I wish I had taken it home because when I returned a week later the frame was smashed and the photo was gone.

Long forgotten regulars

Sorry to see it in this state, fortunately I have happy drunken memories of this place.

My local is closed but it's locked up tighter than a tiger in a tin can. :(
All the other nearby pubs that are closed are also locked up tighter than a tiger in a tin can (at last check) :(
and the one that has a clear visible access, has that access overlooked by a public CCTV camera! :( ach!

Now burnt to a crisp (no doubt down to the owners) and demolition is imminent i'd say.

Also a camera now mounted watching it on the lamp post oposite since the fire....
