Default Latchford Viaduct, Warrington 06-10 - 23-06-2010, 16:22

After snapping the Walton Locks, it seemed a shame to go home on such a lovely day.
So I made my way to the Latchford viaduct, I’ve been there before but it was poor light and I had always vowed to return. So there I was!
250 feet and 1200 tonnes of Victorian engineering was opened in 1893 and carried trains right up to 1985. It was closed due to network rerouting of the Warrington and Stockport lines.

Main span.

Track overgrowth.

Rust – there was lots of this and it made the walk across very hairy!

To kevsy21: Yes, it is very hairy up there, you watch every step or try and balance on the rails.
Of all my Urbex's - this is the only one that gave me the willies!

What a great set of pics. Some years ago I took to this line nearer Warrington and walked to this viaduct snapping all the way. I resisted the temptation to go further ( OK I wasn't young and nimble enough!.
