Seen at Brantome south of Limoges, the earliest dated back to prehistoric times, the ones in the pics date to about the 10th century onwards.
In limestone, very damp and mouldy place to live. There are workings behind the dwellings they may eventually open to the public.

Large area converted into a church come chapel



Chapel detail, the holes are for joists to support the internal timber roof which also diverted the drips



Pigeon holes for egg production for the abbey next door



Part of the abbey spreading into the rock



She who must be obeyed in a link tunnel from one room to another



Quite a big chunk dropped here as I posed for the pic (behind me), you can see why they're not rushing into allowing the public in
