Rossendale Hospital - Rossendale - July 2011

Visited with NickUK

After spending what felt about 4 hours finding a way in, hearing dogs bark, voices and footsteps, we were slightly meh about the whole place. Looking back at the other reports it seems as though this place has suffered from vandals and wire theft somewhat, it was still ok just not what we were expecting...

The hospital began life as a workhouse in the late 19th century, becoming a hospital in the 1930's. The main building has been closed since around 2006 and services have gradually shut down and in September 2010 the whole site closed. It is currently guarded by 24 hour security and the main part at least is grade II listed...

Most PMs were carried out at Rawtenstall Public mortuary in the cemetery grounds, since closed and now most are done at Blackburn hospital

Bacup had its own mortuary on Gas Street many years ago
