Default ARCHIVE - NCT Barley Brook Culvert - Dec 09 - 05-12-2009, 19:31

We never had any intentions of looking at this culvert but after finding ourselves in the area after a failed attempt at another location, well why not.

Detritus 21’s tried to enter the culvert system from it’s out-fall behind the football stadium, Barley Brook report this in-fall is approx ½ mile further upstream.

Disappointingly the up stream section of the culvert had been bastardised with RCP and what looked liked the original route had been bricked up!There is some interesting reading on here Barley Brook discussion with people discussing the original route of the culverted brook.

Anyhow this section starts off as stoned lined at approx 6 foot in height and then reduces to about 5 foot of brick lined goodness. We travelled about 200 metres of the section before turning round as Manx got scared due to the sound of roaring water up ahead!

So in short – the full system still needs exploring, one for the culverteers amongst us.

Egregious!
