Default Allen's Brick Works - 25-10-2010, 23:04

The glazed brick manufacturers was established by Henry Victor Allen when he took over the Halifax Glazed Brick Works in the Walterclough valley.
He converted the works to manufacture refractory bricks.
They were taken over by G.R.Stein of Scotland in 1936 who were the largest brick works of their time.
There Selfrac refactory bricks were world famous.
Today the site is ruined and fire damaged after a series of suspicious fires after the factory was used to make stiff plastic bricks.

Explored with Morrisey, Carabener, Copy Cat R1 and Manx

Brick moochers

Bricks being reused all over the place

Remains of the old kilns

Mish mash of buildings

Interesting lattice work

Nice glazed bricks in the old engine house

Old Brick Moulds

Modern furnace from the plastic works

The bricks were taken from the brick works to Hipperholme Station yard via a continuous haulage system in a purpose built brick lined cutting.

Was a grand day out. Funniest part has got to be when everyone admitted (bar me) that the humongous pile of of various glazed bricks was enough to make them want to start a collection! Sad bastards!!

Main culprit
