Default Goosnargh UKWMO Headquarters - 25-02-2011, 22:58

Hi Everyone, this is my first posting on the site and features the former UK Warning and Monitoring Organisation HQ on Longley Lane in Goosnargh. I went here a couple of years ago - sorry for the fish eye lense! I'm not an expert in photography - just took a few photos to add to my collection. Site was in excellent condition. Mains power and lighting was still present in some areas of the bunker (along with the characteristic fluorescent tube flickers seen in horror movies!). The former peacetime UKWMO offices are also on the site (pre-fab construction) and a veterinary surgery now uses them. The former emergency generator room, containing an artesian well has been used by numerous animals as a shelter from the elements so conditions are far from ideal in there. The bunker itself though hasn't been touched by vandals or scrap theives and long may it remain so.

Former Guardhouse - Comprises Toilet, washroom and guard room

Mound and vent louvres above Generator Room

Service Entrance and Car Park - Note communications mast (now utilised by mobile phone company)

Peacetime UKWMO Administrative Offices (now a vets!)

Control Room - Looked to be in full working order

Atmospheric Controls - heat / humidity / vent / ozone - the whole works

Electrostatic Filters and activated charcoal Filters

Generator Room - Also contained Artesian Well

Air Lock to Generator Room

Key Locker

Alleyway leading to emergency escape

The Situation Room

Plotting Room (fallout)

BBC Soundproofed recording studio

Toilet / Shower Block

Scientific Advisors Room

Former Operations Room from old balcony - gallery dates back from when this was a Sector Operations Centre for the RAF Interception of unknown / enemy aircraft

Deepest Part of bunker - possibly well for old type of radar plotter used by RAF

Dining Room - Linked to kitchen by dumb waiter

Dumb Waiter - in full working order!

Dumb waiter lift shaft

Dormitory - stripped of bunks

Shower / Washrooms

Training Room / briefing Room

British Telecom Equipment Room and Emergency Communications Network

The main bunker is still there. It has been sold twice since its closure in 1995 and the last update in 2008 was that it was to be converted into some type of computer hosting centre. Apparently English Heritage stripped out all the ROC / UKWMO contents following closure but where they are now is anyones guess.
