This small colliery was driven in the late 20th century to work a proven 150,000 tonnes of coal reserves from the 4ft seam. The mine is worked on a number of headings that come off the main haulage level, these headings run for a few hundred feet with the method of support throughout the workings being props and bars.
Who knows - with the spiralling price of crude oil about to smash the $100 brl mark, good old “king coal” could well be making a comeback and raping some green belt land near you sometime soon.
Visited with the usual suspects.
