Imagine what it would of been like to be down there when the place was in full swing, hundreds of people walking about and huge trains pulling in and out of the station!
Also, does anyone have any information regarding the direct hit the place took in the war? I got this: Mayfield suffered the effects of bombing during World War II, when it was hit by a parachute mine on 22 December 1940.

: After years of abandonment and many proposed development schemes, work on dismantling the structure began in February 2013. The site will be used for Manchester International Festival in July 2013
