Default Bunker Drain, Warrington - 31-08-2010, 23:27

Visited with buddah and a couple of mates.

We did this one a few days ago, three out of the four of us had never done a drain before, me and buddah both being n00bs, so we thought we'd try one pretty laid back and straight forward. Off we set to Warrington.

After a leisurely stroll trying to avoid dog walkers whilst loitering around man holes, we managed to swiftly lift a lid and drop in. We headed upstream and towards the vortex / plug type thing.

Were were expecting a circular concrete tunnel that goes on forever, and our expectations were met. :-) Starting off approx. 2.1 M diameter the tunnel reduced to about 1.5 M. We had a good mooch around two separate tunnels, one getting continually decreasing in size, so we gave up on that one!

I couldnt believe the depth of some of the inspection chambers, 3 storeys high in places! Eventually finding the vortex, we concluded there and headed back, getting a few snaps on the way.

A good trip out, and a good first experience in a storm drain. Will definately do another!

Is the main access at the bottom sealed? There should be no need to lift covers.

We didnt go right down to the outfall. We only had a couple of hours so dropped in around the middle and walked upstream. Wouldnt mind going back though, there seemed a few branches which lead off the main drain that we get chance to didnt explore, so would take a look at the outfall then I think!

Ah, good point. I suppose if you want to see the top end that makes sense.

Does anyone know / understand how the drain works?

i.e. what is the point of the plug hole?

yeah really enjoyed this one, it was a lot of concrete but it was a good lot of concrete! The whole thing was comical because as we got further in we were like "im sure this is getting smaller" till quite away in and the next section was almost a crawl. We had a lengthy debate about all of 2 minutes weather we should go down it or not. so i started to make my way in and got about four foot when i heard "FUCK THAT!"

The slipping all over the place was also a classic just waiting for someone to go on there arse.

Just thought id put 2 pics on just to show i was there

smoke me a kipper ill be back for breakfast
