Default Croesor to Rhosydd through trip - Nov 2012 - 12-11-2012, 20:42

Visited with some UCET members.

The Croesor to Rhosydd through trip, known as the CRTT, is a trip through Croesor slate mine, then making the connection into rhosydd and exiting through rhosydd adit 9 or through a quarry which has broken through into some areas of rhosydd.

The trip involves 2 abseils, a zip wire over a flooded chamber, a bridge over another flood (it's still hanging in there ed) then theres the remains of 3 bridges you have to cross, another abseil into a boat, you then cross the "lake", get out of the boat and climb a rope, you're then into rhosydd, the trip from here on is simple route finding, well it's simple if you know the way, not so simple if you dont.

we met up at the cafe in Tan-y-Grisiau, then drove up to the Croesor entrance in a 4x4, got kitted up and did the trip, Exiting through No9 adit, then making the return trip over ground back to the car just in time for it to be pitch black, not a very nice drive back down in the dark, not when you're in the back of a pick-up with half a tonn of caving/srt gear in a huge box.

some pics, not that many, it's hard to get a groupe to stand still for a long exposure picture lol..

I've done this trip a few times now and still havent spent any time exploring rhosydd mine, i need to get on that.

Didn't know you had put that in Ed, yeh the only isue with that is making sure the rope to pul it back doesnt get caught up on the rock.

New ropes in there as well, could do with a few more protectors bolting in though.

Its amazing how much traffic that place gets There is a way to avoid the second Abseil by traversing the wall and sliding down the back slab. Just needs a few more bolts putting in but it will stop any problems with dodgey rub points on the second pitch Keep meaning to head back and do a few more jobs but not had a chance yet

We knew there was supposed to be a way around the second pitch, but didn't know where it was

The abseil into a boat is probably the best thing I've ever done!
