Visited with kelvin
Ainsworths bleachworks near barrow bridge bolton, the ainsworth family are well know in boltons history as they were once owners of smithills hall, and they built the now demolished moss bank hall.In the 18th century they were among the great pioneers of chemical bleaching. All that remains now is the260ft chimney. These tunnels we found run approx 80 meters from blockage to blockage, was well worth a mooch but the soot is bad down there.

1927 the chimney is now all that remains now

the blockage nearest the base of the chimney

If anyone has any more info on these tunnels that run to huge chimneys please add
