Seems like I've been on some sort of abandoned place binge recently, and it was only a matter of time before I visited an asylum.
I remember when I was in school aged 14 when friends showed up with blueprints of nearby Denbigh asylum that they found in the basement there after a visit the previous weekend. The place had been on my radar since then, but despite having actually lived in the town, and spending countless drunken nights at my friend's house directly adjacent, it's taken 8 years since I saw those blueprints for me to finally get around to seeing it.
With
news this week that demolition teams had moved in, I thought I should hop to it and see this asylum pretty sharpish.
In the three days since Wye Valley Demolition had moved in, they seem to have sealed off the main building at the front of the site (not impossible to get into it by any means) and will probably destroy most of the internal parts and retain the shell of the building.
Anyway, photographing decay, in daylight, is something almost completely alien to me. I've found that photographing in conditions that aren't pitch black like in drains is quite challenging, so please excuse my rather average attempts the same way you would forgive a new member!
Thanks for reading.
