Default Oakeley Slate Quarry to Cwmorthin Slate Quarry - 08-05-2012, 14:25

Hi, this is my first post , this is overground apart from one very small tunnel , This was a recon for a trip later I also managed to get invited down Cwmorthin Slate but I am working on this post! hope you enjoy this,

Nice work looks like you really covered the area well

Just a point i would avoid Oakley quarry as it is still classed as an active quarry and you can end up with very angry people chasing you if your caught on there land

Cwmorthin is well worth exploring and there is many many many trips worth of mooching in there. I would find a guide tho as it is one hell of a maze over numerous floors.

we only went to the top left hand side at a weekend to take a look , we did not come across any signs telling us this was private as the route we took across the slate waste possibly avoids this , don't know as we did not check ! the slate tips are accessible without fence so cutting across and skirting onto the disused side of the quarry , my map reading must become better the person who took Jake and I down Cwmorthin the next day was very experienced ! he told us the next day apparently they roam around Oakeley with shot guns ! Jakes Dad

Yup thats the very angry owner and co Tbh they have had one hell of a lot of problems with pikeys round there so they are over protective.
