Default Cwmorthin Slate mine Long Haul Trip 07/10. - 01-08-2010, 00:37

Today's trip to Cwmorthin was organised by Mine Explorer & what a turnout it was , 24 eager pit moochers met up then trudged up the incline to the gated adit.
NWEX members present were me, Morrisey, Ed, Carabiner, Copy Cat, EWJ & Red Dood.
This place really is a fantastic mine to visit & our 7 hour mooch was only enough to see a fraction of what it has to offer, so needless to say we shall return !!!!!!!
Special thanks must go to ME's Speedy & Corin whose dedication to Cwmorthin
is nothing more than amazing.....
The abseils, traverses, scrambles & scrawps make the place a complete all rounder .
The bridge of death of death(BODOD) was limited to only 5 people as time was pressing, it would have taken a lot less time if a certain NWEX member hadn't taken on more than he could chew & got stuck on the ropes, I'll leave it up to him to reveal himself

On with some pics

Just to clear things up, it wasn't me stuck on the ropes, i have no cuts or bruises, infact, i didn't even ab down, i didn't think i would be Ok with the free hanging rebelay in the dark, so i didn't even try, it was a long way down if you got it wrong!

A great mine, and a return trip is a must.. It was also great to put faces to names

few more pics.

I am suffering for my slight over enthusiasm. The spilt blood was worth it in the end.

If I LOL, does that mean trees get mysteriously harder to climb EWJ?

Great pics so far. Gives me an idea what I want to acheive when I go underground.

I really need to go here. Added to the list ever growing list.

The BODOD has been re-rigged going around to the left with not enough bolts and quite slack rope. This is all on slick slate at about 80° and covered in slate slime. Anyway I slipped and ended up getting slammed in to the slate wall (harder than I realised at the time). Needed a little help to get off the other end and a little patching up. I'm in quite a lot of pain this morning.

Got in a spot of bother on the re-belay after as well, stoopid dynamic rope. I did manage to make the last abseil look real good.

Yep, a good day was had by all, names put to faces etc - and a big thanks to NWEX's very own north Wales cave rescue member EWJ for the LOL's

Must admit i pooped myself a little when i got on a rope to follow two people down only to realise that the rope was fucked as it came through the stop, a hasty exit off said rope ensued.

was that the last dynamic line, the one that only just reachs the ground, untill you're on it, then theres 10ft of rope on the ground?

it was funny watching people trying to un-thread there stops off that line
