Default Old culverts - 25-05-2011, 21:50

I noticed a couple of very old culverts the other day while I was out so I thought it was about time to check them out.

The first one was kind of a fail as the land owner was there so I grabbed a quick couple of cheeky shots and moved on. I'll be back there soon enough as the culvert looks like it goes a fair distance.

Starts with the modern entrance then heads into the older stuff

The next culvert on the list was turned out to be a fantastic find

The start

It has a few bends and even an uphill section that was a real squeeze to use the tripod.

Branching off, Im going to go back without all my equipment!

It has this strange waterfall where there is room to stand up
The water fall could also be explored as it goes up in steps. Sadly the waterfall also soaked my cam which is now drying out

The pipe isn't for the fresh stuff is it? Sure did pong in there.

It went on even more but I had to return as my friend was outside watching my dog and my kit for me.

I'd be up for another explore if anybody fancies it, wont be taking my cam in again

Nice stonework. If you want a nice, not too stoopy culvert to look at, the one at Red Rock is an attractive proposition for you guys.

Egregious!

Know of one very similar in the Darwen area if anyone wants it - undone too but very stoopy. PM me if anyones interested .

Same construction and may lead to old working so gas detector a must.

Amazing what you can find on a typical dog walk.

I think the first culvert on the list goes very near an old gas works too, going to see if I can find where it comes out before I go crawling around.
