Default RAF Hooton Park - 02-03-2012, 22:01

History: http://www.hootonparktrust.co.uk/history.html

Only a small portion of the airfield survives. Ouside the boundary of the Hooton Park Trust compound there is a B1 hangar, a unique canon butt and a gym/chancel. he B1 hangar isn't very easy to photograph and on this occasion I didn't make the detour to photograph the gym.

Three 'Belfast Truss" hangars remain but as can be seen they vary in condition from hopeless case (hangar ) to not very well (hangar 3). The northern half of hangar 2 has been re-roofed and work is about to start on the southern half. Hangar 3 will be started after this.

Hangar 1

Hangar 1 buttress with machine gun post on top

Hangar 2 (north half has been restored)

Hangar 3

First and last Atlanteans in hangar 3

Hangar door stop springs

WWI MT sheds

Canon butt

Air raid shelter (one of three adjacent to hangar 2)

I think its because its one of the few remaining WW1 hangars left. The John Craven proggy on TV a couple of weeks ago went into detail.
