Default All Saints Church, York, North Yorkshire - 19-10-2011, 11:12

Since you have this category I thought I'd throw this in. Might not be so special for you folks, but I don't get to see this sort of thing often.

This is a fascinating old church on a site where there has been a church for 1100 years or so. This is the "newest" church built and the 15th century New is a relative term in a country as old as Britain. We really have nothing like this sort of thing in the states.

The church underwent restoration work in the 1970's, including the recovery of glass shards from windows broken out during the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century, and the British Civil War in the 17th century. Overall though, the stained glass in places here is some of the oldest still in existence and represents medieval glass making in its heyday. Much of the technique used to make this glass is lost to antiquity.

My daughter Sarah and her husband Chris took me here first on the way into York's center.

The church has a website with some history and what not: All Saints Church Website
