The Kingsway is a nightclub in the heart of Southport, with a lot of history behind it. It was built in 1931, then under the name of Kingsway Casino, and has played host to greats such as Tom Jones, and The Beatles, on February 5 1962 - which was the first performance they did with Ringo Starr replacing Pete Best on the drums.
The Club was the centre of Southport's dance scene in the 90's, under the name (I think) Bar Bliss. However it sadly closed down, and was re-opened in 2006 called The Kingsway and Berlin Bar.
Once again the club had to be shut down, this time due to cracking walls and parapets coming loose. Now the building is considered unsafe, and in October 2009 it was revealed that it will soon be knocked down and replaced by a £9m luxury hotel, apartment and retail complex.
Back in the day
The development plan
So after a recce, myself, Williamski, Dougski, John and Bob headed in for an excellent explore. I've put a lot of pictures up here because it's a really interesting place, and I want to try and get the feel of the place across.
It's rumoured to be haunted by a dead clubber from back in the day. He Still waits by the top floor bar to order his next drink
Funky colour schemes and trippy wall paintings
Fruit machine anyone? I lost £10
Plenty of kegs knocking about
We fired up the pumps and stopped for a swift pint
Bob has
John re-lives his raving days
(The toy says ravin on it)
And lastly, a rooftop shot form the recce
Thanks for looking, album
