Default Ury House, Stonehaven - 2/11 - 09-03-2011, 17:40

Suppose now I'm all settled into the new abode I should start looking about for places.

Visited with my girlfriend to round off a long walk.

Info taken from wikipedia.

Ury House is a ruined large mansion built in the Elizabethan style in 1885 by Alexander Baird. It is situated about a mile north of Stonehaven, a town in Aberdeenshire (historic Kincardineshire) on the North-East coast of Scotland. Originally the estate belonged to the Frasers, then the Hays starting in 1413, but eventually property of the Earl Marischal; over the years Ury has been rebuilt three times. In early times the property was known as Urie. In the 17th century Ury was established as the North East Scotland headquarters of the Quaker organisation by David Barclay.

Today the house is derelict and the dangerous condition of the structure limits entry. In March 2007 the current owners of the estate, FM Developments lodged an amended planning application for a golf and leisure complex on the estate as the previous housing development was rejected in October 2006. There have been earlier proposals for its restoration, including a 2004 planning application, which was rejected by the local Community Council.

Apologies for some shakyness it looks like a nice day but it was about 3 degress.

Nothing too special just a shell of what was probably a very nice building

All the work looks to have stopped completely, there were tools on the floor rusting looks like nothings been happening there for a long time. Will keep an eye on it though.

i love the staircase going to nothing. I love places like this, old architecture just makes me smile so much more than the modern shite people come up with these days.

I sound like an old man now

That place would definitely make a nice spa hotel or something similar. I used to drive past that place every day when working up in Aberdeen. Must have been derelict for at least 50 years I'd say with looking at that riveted boiler - they don't make em like that nowadays!
